Tomkinson wins the coveted “Center of Excellence” award from BMW

By jrtomkinson · Comments (0)
Thursday, February 10th, 2011

We’re proud to report that BMW of North America recently recognized Tomkinson BMW with one of its annual “Center of Excellence” awards for the first time our history.  Of 49 dealers in our peer group, just two were recognized with this prestigious award for 2011.

The award is based on a variety of criteria, most notably customer satisfaction, sales and service department performance, and customer loyalty.  Everyone here at Tomkinson BMW contributed something to make this possible, and I could not be prouder of our team.

It also goes without saying that we would not have won this award without the support of our loyal customers, who continue to reward us with their business day in and day out.  Understand that we are grateful for this loyalty and promise never to take it for granted.  Even as BMW rewards us for a year of “Excellence,” we recognize that we are far from perfect and will continue to focus relentlessly on opportunities to improve our customers’ experience.

Christmas comes early for Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne

By jrtomkinson · Comments (0)
Friday, December 17th, 2010

Several Tomkinson BMW staff members spent yesterday afternoon at the Fort Wayne Boys and Girls Club on Fairfield.  Just a terrific organization run by Executive Director Joe Jordan – if you are not familiar with it, you owe it to yourself to stop by for a tour.  Kate Tomkinson serves on the board and organized a drive to purchase over 200 Christmas gifts for Boys and Girls Club members.  We stopped by to deliver the gifts, sing a few carols, and enjoy some punch and cookies.  This was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit!

Christmas Comes Early for the Children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne is hosting a Christmas Party on Thursday, December 16th at the Club at 2690 Fairfield Ave, Fort Wayne. 200+ kids will be the lucky recipients of Christmas presents thanks to gracious donations by members of the community.

Kate Tomkinson, a board member, is head of this year’s program and has gone to great lengths to make sure no child is deprived of a Christmas celebration. Tomkinson was able to buy presents for 230 kids through donations by Tomkinson Automotive, Carson BoxBerger LLP, Marty Sturges and a few anonymous donors.

The Christmas party will include a program on the true meaning of Christmas beyond the shiny presents and Christmas Trees. We want to be sure to emphasize the spirit of Christmas and remind the kids that this season is truly about sharing and giving to others. The party will also include plenty of festivities with punch and cookies and Christmas caroling. On their way out each child will be given a Christmas present to take home and unwrap.

“No one likes to think about Christmas passing and there being kids who didn’t receive any presents,” says Tomkinson. “The Christmas party is an exciting time for both the kids and the adults, who enjoy seeing the joy that it brings to the children. After all, that is what Christmas is all about.”

Sneak Peek at 2011 BMW X3 in Fort Wayne

Well, it’s here… sort of.  The very first 2011 BMW X3 to roll through Fort Wayne sits in our showroom here at Tomkinson BMW, if only for a day.

2011 BMW X3 3
2011 BMW X3 1
2011 BMW X3 2

BMW won’t let us send it out on the road – it’s not quite street legal, actually – but we did give customers a chance to poke around the roomier interior and play around with some of the cooler new features.  (The top-down camera in the nav display was one favorite.)  The extra legroom in both front and back also drew rave reviews.  Wait till people get a chance to drive it!  It’s always fun when we get to introduce a new model that amounts to more car for less money than its predecessor.

We took a few pre-orders from Fort Wayne BMW customers who will have their X3s by early January.

BMW earns more praise from Car and Driver

By jrtomkinson · Comments (0)
Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Car and Driver recently published its annual 10 Best list, and the BMW 3 Series, a Fort Wayne favorite, made the list for an incredible 20th consecutive year.  Here’s what they had to say:

Celebrating 20 years at the top

“This year marks the 3-series’ 20th consecutive 10Best win, a feat unmatched by any other vehicle on the market. We won’t call the 3-series perfect, but you know how there’s always one old lady at the bake sale whose recipe everybody wants? The 3-series is that car. The chassis balance is exquisite, with handling that encourages risky behavior but a ride that you wouldn’t feel bad subjecting your grandma to. The fluid steering weights up just right, the brake pedal bypasses the soles of your shoes and goes straight to your brain, and the manual transmission—should you be wise enough to specify it—boasts a shifter that knows its way effortlessly from gear to gear. Plus, all the 3-series’ goodness is available in coupe, convertible, sedan, and even station-wagon forms. Engine choices are a silky inline-six; powerful, turbocharged inline-sixes; and the M3’s screaming, 8400-rpm V-8. The 3-series is rear-drive dynamics perfected, or, for those in colder climes, all-wheel drive is available. The four-wheeler gets a little heavier and amends the 3’s near-perfect weight distribution, but the rest of its virtues remain. Other drawbacks? Only a few. The clutch needs more weight to better convey its takeup, and no matter the configuration, the 3-series is seriously expensive. But there’s a reason people will pay so much more for that one lady’s cookies.”
